Yac on September 8th, 2008

Usually after I leave a job, I enjoy a few weeks break before starting my new employment. I consider it my own little perk, allowing me to recharge my batteries and rest a little. Actually, it’s mainly taken up by a move to where ever my new job takes me happens to be. Anyways, for the first time, I had no such break. Sure I could have taken some time off, but as soon as my last day was over, I was on my own clock, eating away at my savings.

I didn’t get to enjoy any time off this summer, so we decided to take a few days off and go on a mini-break holiday. We’re setting off tomorrow (well, this past Saturday by the time this post goes live), and I’ll be back in town Wednesday evening.

Yeah, there is a part of me that’s wondering if I can afford to take such a break. That’s possibly why I’m bringing my laptop with me. The other part of me knows I need a little time off, since I have no idea when I’ll have time to take another long week-end away from my work. And there has to be a balance somewhere, right? There’s no point in making this game if I kill myself in the process. I’m content with just being exhausted by the end of it.

I’m going to try not to think about work while I’m away, and if the itch surfaces, I’m going to direct it towards the site and writing. I am aiming to crank up my rate of posting. Fingers crossed.

Things Done Last Week

A good and bad week. The good bit: I solved this other major bug I alluded to last week. I did that by Tuesday while fixing up some other issues. Another huge wave of relief. It’s nice to have some of the biggest unknowns worked out in my project worked. There’s still other major tasks ahead, but I am confident I can address them one by one.

The bad: productivity got shot to hell later in the week. I did do some work, but not nearly as much as I wanted to. As a result, the Box2D integration isn’t complete. I know these things tend to go in waves; they certainly do so for me. When I accomplish a major task, it really pumps me up about whatever I’m doing, but then it also relieves some of the pressure, which tends to make me relax and ease up. The pressure (self-inflicted or not) is what I use to primarily motivate myself. I need to learn to be more consistent with my productivity.

Things Planned This Week

Well, aside from the holiday, I want to wrap up integration of Box2D, and start playing around with the construction of scenes, and the interaction of physical objects. It’ll be a short week next week.
