Writing inspiration has not been very forthcoming today. I could sit here and bore you with discussions on component systems (not really in the mood), or the problem with Home (dead horse), or design issues (not in the mood). I am still in buried in tools land, and it’s not very conducive to creative writing. Rather than force something when it isn’t there, it’s best I return to development.
I’ll try to post something else later in the week.
Work Done Last Week
The editor work is still not finished, but productivity was high last week. I underestimated the scope of the task, and all the different areas it was going to affect, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. The object editor is almost done. I’ve implemented a new flow for the GUI system which gives me greater flexibility and is easier to expand in the future.
I finished adding serialization support for all the components I’ve implemented so far. I added facilities for sharing resources across objects and levels. Some of this new work is still untested, but it should all come together nicely this week.
I did not get close to touching the design side of things which is a shame, but I’ll keep pressing forward and should get back to it this week barring any major setbacks.
Work-hour wise, it’s been a long week, working late into the evening every night, but I managed to catch up on some rest during the week-end, so I’m good to go again.
Work Planned This Week
I’ll finish the basics of the object editor, and update to the level editor to handle the objects. Then move the focus back to the design. Fingers crossed.
